The Fool

(version 2) Ford-Hazlewood, 1990 (stereo).  Recorded: 06-04-64

Johnny Kidd (voc) - Mick Green (lead) - Johnny Spence (bass) - Frank Farley (drums) - Vic Cooper (keyboards)

Kidd's first attempt of this Sanford Clark song (second version released in 1966) which indicates how much the singer thought of it.  The difference between the two versions are quite amazing.

Yeah gather around me people
Hold your glasses high
And drink to a fool, a crazy fool
Who told his baby goodbye

That too late he's found that he loves her
So much he wants to die
And drink to a fool, a crazy fool
Who told his baby goodbye

Well he needs her, oh he needs her so
And he wonders why he let her go

She's found, yeah a new lovin' buddy
Ah, he's a lucky guy
Oh, drink to a fool, 'cos I'm that fool
I told my baby goodbye

(instrumental break)

Oh he needs her, yeah he needs her so
And he wonders why he let her go

She's found, oh, a new lovin' buddy, yeah
Now he's a lucky guy
So drink to a fool, 'cos I'm that fool
I told my baby goodbye
Yes, I told my baby goodbye
